Grants Pass girls down Ashland

Led by Elizabeth Williams and Grace Connelly, Grants Pass was able to sweep Ashland in singles and prevail 6-1 in the nonleague girls tennis dual Thursday in Grants Pass.

In a battle of top seeds, Williams topped Ashland’s Lauren Croyle, 6-4, 4-6, 10-6, while Connelly earned a 6-0, 6-4 victory over the Grizzlies’ Stella Bungay.

The Grizzlies’ second-seeded doubles team, JD Miller and Bianca Chesti, picked up the lone win for Ashland, a 6-5, 6-0 winner over the Cavers’ Grace Pitzak and Olivia Bauer.

Boys Tennis

Ashland defaulted two matches and got a gutsy win out of its No. 2 doubles team in a 4-4 nonleague draw with Grants Pass on Thursday at Hunter Park.

In doubles play, the Grizzlies’ Jackson McRae and Gabe Dreyer lost the first set, 1-6, to Christian Pendleton and Kenneth Burton, then rallied in the next two, 7-6 (4) and 10-8.
