Southern Oregon senior forward Autumn Durand was named the Cascade Conference women's basketball player of the week and the MVP of the Santa Cruz December Classic on Monday.
Durand scored 28 points and pulled down a career-high-tying 14 rebounds against Pomona-Pitzer on Saturday, two days after recording 14 points, 11 boards and two steals in a win at Pacific Union.
Durand leads the Cascade Conference in points per game (18.6) and ranks second in rebounds per game (10.3) heading into the fifth-ranked Raiders' CCC opener Friday at Corban.
Also earning all-tournament honors for SOU at Santa Cruz was senior forward Sydney Mullings, who had 13 points, 10 rebounds, four steals and three blocks against Pamona-Pitzer, and 10 points, 10 boards and three assists against La Verne.
The Raiders, who are 6-1, have won five straight heading into Friday's game.
Corban is 6-2 and SOU's Saturday opponent, Northwest Christian, is 3-4.
Seniors Tucker Atteberry and Nicky Weinberg were named co-winners of the Ashland High School football team's Dave Kitchell Most Inspirational Award, an annual honor selected by coaches and teammates.
Atteberry, a quarterback and defensive back, and Weinberg, a receiver and defensive back, helped the Grizzlies capture the Midwestern League title and advance to the OSAA Class 5A state quarterfinals.
Atteberry passed for 2,489 yards and 23 touchdowns and rushed for 228 yards and three touchdowns for the Grizzlies, whose playoff loss came in overtime against the eventual state champions from Lebanon. Weinberg had 48 catches for 761 yards and 10 touchdowns and also had three interceptions and two fumble recoveries.
