SOU soccer team gains national awards

Southern Oregon sophomore goalkeeper Jessica Kuehlwein and the Raider women's soccer team have been recognized by the National Soccer Coaches Association of American.

Kuehlwein was named to the NSCAA NAIA All-West Region team and the Raiders were named a Team Academic Award Winner.

Kuehlwein was a top-level goalkeeper for the Raiders this year and earned First Team All-Cascade Conference honors. Kuehlwein ranked third in the conference in save percentage (.803) and fourth in goal against average (1.06).

"Jessica is so deserving of this honor," SOU head coach Jon Clement said. "She's a model of consistency. Her approach is right and she manages to balance a hyper competitive mentality with the requisite degree of humility. We are all very proud of her."

The Team Academic honor goes to teams with a grade point average of 3.0 or higher.

"It's always nice to get recognition for classroom achievements off the field," Clement said. "After all, our top priority continues to be academic success. We all realize that before we get it right on the pitch, we've got to get it right in the classroom — which we do consistently well."
