Cydni Lewis banked in a four-footer at the buzzer as San Jose State nixed Southern Oregon's upset bid in overtime Wednesday, 89-87, at San Jose, California.
The NCAA Division I Spartans led by 15 points in the second half before the NAIA Raiders rallied to force overtime, tying the game at 79 on a layup by Destinee Jones with 22 seconds left in regulation.
A jumper by SOU's Ariel Augustine tied the game at 87 with 48 seconds to go in overtime, but San Jose State avoided a second extra session when Lewis received a long inbound pass in traffic from near midcourt with 1.5 seconds left and scored as the horn sounded.
Remi Mejia and Daranda Hinkey scored 22 points apiece to lead the Raiders, who fell to 11-2. Toria Bradford added 16 points and three assists and Augustine 11 points and seven rebounds.
The Spartans (3-8) were led by Myzhanique Ladd's 18 points and eight rebounds.
