ASHLAND — The Southern Oregon University athletic department has captured its third consecutive Cascade Collegiate Conference All-Sports Trophy, the league office announced, after a 2017-18 season in which the Raiders captured championships in four CCC sports.
Points for the All-Sports Trophy standings are awarded based on a department’s top eight finishes in CCC regular-season standings — except in the cases of cross country, golf, track and field and men’s wrestling, which are scored based on finishes in the championship meets. SOU totaled 207.5 points to beat out second-place Oregon Tech (194.8), third-place Corban (188.9) and fourth-place Eastern Oregon (187.0).
The Raiders earned first-place points with titles in men’s cross country and softball, and co-titles in men’s soccer and men’s wrestling. SOU’s men’s and women’s track and field and women’s basketball teams all took second place, and the women’s cross country team was the department’s final scorer in third place.
The Trophy was awarded for the first time in 2006-07. SOU won it for the first time in 2015-16.
Oregon Tech won three titles this season, but no other school collected more than two. The Owls got theirs in men’s and women’s golf and women’s cross country.
