A Once Prominent Portland Professional Ordered to Repay $50K Stolen from Nonprofit
A once prominent Portland professional, Devon Horace (32), pleaded no contest to a charge of first-degree aggravated theft and falsifying business records when he appeared before Multnomah Circuit Court Judge Angela Lucero on Wednesday.
The theft occurred when Horace was the leader of the since disbanded nonprofit Alberta Main Street organization, where his fundraising efforts accumulated more than $100,000. Nike was the organization’s main contributor. At that time, Horace was the prime organizer of the Last Thursday street fairs held monthly.
The scheme was exposed in January 2023 by board members who discovered the funds were missing.
His no-contest plea is not an admission of guilt but Horace has accepted the punishment.
Judge Lucero ordered Horace to pay $50,000 to the Northeast Coalition of Neighborhoods that took control of Alberta Main Street after it was dissolved. She also sentenced Horace to one year of probation and 240 hours of community service.
A hearing will be held at a later date to determine if Horace must pay back another $50,000. Judge Lucero said Horace could face a 60-day jail sentence if he fails to comply with the terms of the plea deal.
