Salem Man Spotted Near Kiddies Playground with a Gun Tucked into his Waistband is Arrested

SALEM, Ore. — A 20-year-old man reported to be carrying a gun was arrested near the Riverfront Park playground on Friday afternoon by Salem Police officers.

It was late afternoon when a member of the community reported spotting a male near the playground with a firearm tucked into his waistband.

The man walked north through the park toward the Gilbert House Children’s Museum.

When police officers arrived on the scene, they were able to spot the suspect based on a detailed description of his clothing.

 

He Fled on Foot When Police Approached

However, the man fled on foot when police tried to make contact, ducking and weaving through traffic during the chase.

He was apprehended and taken into custody. A handgun was later found. Police determined that the suspect threw the gun under a car as he was trying to escape the police.

Victor Arenas of the Salem-Keizer area, was taken into custody and charged with unlawful possession of a firearm and interfering with a police officer.
