APD Det. Hull speaks Saturday at SOU

Ashland Police Department Det. Carrie Hull, the creator of the nationally recognized “You Have Options” program, will be the guest speaker at the Ashland Association of University Women meeting on Saturday, Nov. 21. The public is welcome to attend.
Hull was the inaugural winner of the Oregon AAUW Breaking Barriers Award at last year’s state convention.
She currently works as a detective with a special emphasis on child abuse, child sexual abuse and adult sexual assault cases. A few years ago, she worked with department administration to change how the APD investigated sexual assault cases. The department now follows a victim-centered and offender-focused approach that has been very successful.
Hull is a forensic interviewer of children, a participating member of the Jackson County Major Assault and Death Investigation Unit (MADIU) as well as the Jackson County Sexual Assault Response Team (JCSART) and the Jackson County Child Abuse Multi-disciplinary Team, and is an instructor with the Oregon Sexual Assault Training Institute where she teaches best practices in sexual assault investigations to law enforcement officers across the nation as well as a member of the Legislative and Public Policy Committee for the Oregon Sexual Assault Task Force.
Hull is also a certified instructor in verbal defense and influence, self-defense tactics for women and personal protection strategies for women and children, and is the founder and administrator of the Southern Oregon Sexual Assault Symposium, the “You Have Options” sexual assault reporting campaign, ReportingOptions.org and the “I Will” sexual assault prevention campaign.
The meeting begins with social time at 9:30 a.m. in the Rogue River Room in Stevenson Union on the Southern Oregon University campus. The program begins at 10 a.m.
