ASHLAND, Ore. — The Ashland City Council passed a second reading of the noise ordinance amendment which enables construction crews to start work- and make noise, earlier in the summer months.

To combat extreme heat in the afternoons of the summer months, the amendment to the city’s noise ordinances will allow earlier working hours for construction crews during summer months. This would enable compliance with OSHA guidelines.

Street and parks and recreation work and other crews will be able to start work at 5 a.m. in summer. The amendment follows progressively increasing extreme heat experienced over the last few years. Tonya Graham, Ashland’s Mayor, said, “It is incumbent on us to provide a workplace that is supportive.”

Equally important according to the mayor is to create community awareness to ensure the community knows rules are being followed during the summertime. This step will be implemented next spring. The ordinance passed its first reading on August 20 and this was the second reading of the noise ordinance amendment.
