Central Point Area Fires: Firefighters Working Along I-5 Northbound
JACKSON COUNTY, Ore —The Oregon Department of Forestry (ODF) has confirmed that all fires in the Central Point area have been knocked down by firefighters who battled several fires simultaneously. The affected areas are in various stages of mop-up.
Several Fire Departments Deployed To Battle Central Point Fires
Fire crews from Jackson County Fire District 3 and ODF were deployed in response to multiple reports of small fires along Interstate 5. Located on the northbound side of the freeway, the fires were scattered between Exit 33 in Central Point on the I-5 and milepost 37.
Firefighters initially engaged in an aggressive initial attack to contain several fires and prevent further spread. The first fire that crews battled was near The Expo off I-5 Exit 33. Firefighting crews stopped that fire, hindering its forward progress after about 1/10 of an acre had burned.
There were no reported injuries or evacuation notices but fire personnel requested law enforcement units to see if they could locate a vehicle traveling northbound on the I-5 that could have inadvertently been the cause of the fire.
Warnings Still Active For Central Point Area Fires
Fires at Milepost 37 and 36 fires are the only ones within ODF jurisdiction, and the other two fires south of Central Point are within the jurisdiction of Fire District 3.
Motorists in the area have been urged by ODF to exercise caution, especially when traveling near active firefighting operations along the roadway.
Firefighters engaged in mopping up operations are still working near the roadway. Drivers are advised to slow down and remain alert as crews work to manage the situation.
Various agencies will be working together to investigate the cause of fire for each incident.
