KLAMATH COUNTY, Ore. — Firefighters battling the Copperfield fire east of Chiloquin made significant progress and have now fully lined the perimeter of the fire. Personnel on site has been increased to 534 as new crews and overnight reinforcements are now on site. Crews now work around the clock.

 

Latest News On Copperfield Fire

3,656 acres have been burned by the fire and the newest report from the National Interagency Fire Center (NIFC) indicates that containment remains at 0%. On the frontline, crews are identifying and addressing hot spots around the fire area actively, to counteract potential flare-ups.

The Sprague River Highway has been reopened to the public as hazardous trees along the highway have been cleared, but a reduced speed limit will be in place starting at 5:00 a.m. this Wednesday, September 4th. Because of the increased presence of fire traffic, motorists are advised to exercise caution in the area.

Residents in the following areas are affected as of 9/3/24 at 10:30p.m:

  • Level 1: KLU-E060A, KLU-E035B, KLU-E060E (GET READY)
  • Level 2: KLU-E064A, KLU-E073, KLU-E063A-B, KLU-E111-B (GET SET)
  • Level 3:  KLU-E061, KLU-E063A, KLU-E062, KLU-E063A-A (GO NOW)

 

Authorities continue to monitor the situation closely as Firefighting efforts have intensified to get the fire under control. And authorities are monitoring the situation closely.

To ensure the fire does not breach the currently established containment perimeter, the focus has also turned to strengthening the fire lines.
