As part of the festivities, “Coraline” returns to theaters, but for limited engagements. Just in time for Halloween, Laika’s “Coraline” is returning to theaters internationally and in the United States. The movie screens on Halloween, October 31, as well as on November 1.

David Burke, Laika’s chief marketing & operations officer, said they are thrilled with the worldwide success of the ‘Coraline’ re-release.

In addition to becoming Fathom’s highest-grossing release in the US, ‘Coraline’ made box office records in several international territories, including Mexico and the U.K. Burke said the company is humbled by the millions of fans around the world who came to experience the movie in remastered 3D on the big screen this summer.

The 15th-anniversary summer re-release is regarded as a cultural phenomenon and is the past decade’s highest-grossing re-release in the U.S., grossing over $53 million worldwide.

Tickets for the Halloween showing of the Coraline 15th anniversary re-release are available from Fathom Events.

Coraline Movie

Released in 2009, Coraline is rated as one of the best movies filmed in Oregon. Written and directed by Henry Selick, Dakota Fanning voices Coraline and Teri Hatcher plays her mother.

Other actors including Ian McShane, Keith David, John Hodgman, Dawn French, and Jennifer Saunders lend their voices to the dark animated comedy.

A dark fantasy about 11-year-old Coraline, the young girl is overlooked at her family’s new house in Oregon. She restlessly discovers a secret door that opens onto what at first seems like an ideal version of her life but her “perfect world” with her mother is far more dangerous than it seems.

Other events from Laika for the 15th anniversary of Coraline include “Coraline’s Curious Cat Trail,” a display of 30 cat statues installed at different Portland locations.

As a fundraiser for OHSU Doernbecher Children’s Hospital, the cat statues will be auctioned on October 30, and the last day to see them in their locations around the city is Thursday, October 10.
