Douglas County H.O.P.E. Participants Launch Heart Health Event
DOUGLAS COUNTY, Ore. — Two prospective graduates of the Douglas County H.O.P.E. Drug Court program have created a New HOPE for Heart Health event in partnership with Safe at Home and FARA that will take place at the Parkview Skating Center.

A unique tie had prompted graduate hopefuls Demetrius McCain and Ryan Guske to promote better heart health awareness in the community. McCain’s brother passed away from heart disease recently and- as a result, has dedicated the event to Nathaniel Charles Edward McCain III.
The project came to life for Guske, who discovered he had A Fibrillation of the heart after being in recovery.
The 108th graduation ceremony of the Drug Court program will take place on February 3, 2025, at 5:15 p.m. in the Community Hall building at the Douglas County Fairgrounds. Honorable Judge Robert B. Johnson presides over the program, which operates under the jurisdiction of Douglas County Circuit Court.
It is designed to reduce recidivism, address substance use disorders, and allow participants to look beyond the criminal act and consider the larger context of their life and future. The program includes community projects as part of the graduate phase.
McCain confirmed that the event will be indoors so the weather will not interfere with their goal of promoting heart health. Because of early sponsorships, the first 100 attendees can skate free, have light refreshments, and have a chance at a 50/50 raffle and other options.
Donations To New Heart Health Program
The pair chose to keep raffles for the event local and support the local Shaw Heart and Vascular Center in Roseburg with the proceeds.
With experts to meet the needs of patients, Shaw Heart is certified by the National Accreditation for Cardiovascular Excellence (ACE) and offers around-the-clock emergency and inpatient care.
