Drunk Driver’s Reckless Crash Kills Teen, Injures Three Others in Marion County
SALEM, Ore. — Responding to reports of a single-vehicle crash at around 9,50 p.m. on Sunday night in the 17000 block of Fern Ridge Rd, just outside of Stayton, Marion County police found a single-vehicle crash with extensive damage.
Of the four teenage passengers, one was dead, and the other had serious injuries. The driver, 33-year-old Christopher Atkinson of Salem, was arrested.
A 16-year-old juvenile was pronounced deceased at the scene, and three other juvenile passengers, aged 16, 14, and 12, were taken to area hospitals.
The Stayton Fire Department, Sublimity Fire Department, Marion County Crash Team, Lyons Fire Department, and Marion County Public Works assisted the Morion County Sheriff’s Office.
Atkinson was arrested and booked into the Marion County Jail on charges of:
- Manslaughter in the Second Degree
- Driving Under the Influence of Intoxicants
- 4 charges of Reckless Endangerment
- Assault in the Second Degree
- 2 charges of Assault in the Fourth Degree
