Eagle Point Driver Dies In Flames After Veering Into Truck On Hwy 138 Head-On Collision

A two-vehicle crash on Highway 138W near milepost 6 in Douglas County on Wednesday ended in tragedy as the driver of one of the vehicles was declared deceased on the scene despite being pulled from his burning car by bystanders.

After responding to reports of the fatal crash, the Oregon State Police (OSP), assisted by the Kellogg Rural Fire, Elkton Rural Fire, North Douglas Fire and EMS, Bay City Ambulance, and ODOT attended and later established that an eastbound Ford Escape, driven by Carl Gregory Miller (38) of Eagle Point, veered into the westbound lane of travel, crashing head-on into a Kenworth Commercial Motor Vehicle, driven by Grant Crossgrove (34) of Sisters. Fatigue is believed to be a possible factor in the crash.

On impact, the Ford Escape burst into flames, and motorists at the scene extricated Miller from the burning vehicle. Unfortunately, Miller died on the scene.

Crossgrove was reportedly uninjured, but Highway 138W was affected for about five hours during the on-scene investigation.
