Eugene Police DUII Enforcement Set To Run Until New Year’s Day
EUGENE, Ore. — The Eugene Police Department issued a statement indicating that the DUII high-visibility enforcement campaign began on December 11 and will run through New Year’s Day. The Oregon Impact DUII grant funds the Eugene initiative.
The department reminded the public to celebrate responsibly. It confirmed that the enforcement campaign funding will help deliver high visibility DUII overtime enforcement.
The additional money means that the Eugene Police can staff DUII patrols over and above the normal strength during the high visibility period.
This will ensure enough officers are available to identify, stop, and process impaired drivers.
Driving Under the Influence of Intoxicants (DUII) impairs drivers and is a significant ongoing problem, yet it is preventable. To reduce the potentially deadly effects of driving under the influence, police suggested the public should:
- A seatbelt is the best defense against impaired drivers- ensure you are always buckled up.
- Designate a non-drinking friend as the driver before drinking starts.
- Call a taxi or ride service to travel when you have been drinking.
- Hosts of parties where alcohol is served should ensure guests leave with a sober driver.
- Don’t let friends drive impaired.
- If you suspect dangerous or potential DUII drivers, call 911 to report.
