Fake Oregon State Troopers Scamming Jackson County Residents

JACKSON COUNTY, Ore. — Fake Oregon State Troopers are involved in a scheme to scam residents of Jackson County.

Oregon State Police are calling on the public to be aware of scammers who are impersonating State Troopers in attempts to solicit banking information.

 

Scammers Attempt to Obtain Banking Information

State Police have confirmed that they have had several complaints from residents who say they have received calls from scammers who then try to elicit sensitive, private banking information. Pretending to be State Troopers, they ask phone recipients for bank and credit card details.

State Police warn that they would NEVER request personal banking information, nor any other kind of banking transaction details, such as personal information that would enable them to access individual banking accounts.

 

Police Appeal to the Public to be Vigilant

Police urge the public to be vigilant and to safeguard the interests of loved ones, particularly the elderly who may be more vulnerable to scammers.

Oregon State Police say it is important to remember that no law enforcement agency will try to solve this type of crime, especially telephonically. Anyone receiving such a call from someone alleging to be a member of a law enforcement agency should resist giving the caller any information and immediately report the incident to their local police.

The State police say that although trying to solve this type of crime is difficult as they face challenges in locating and then arresting scammers, they nevertheless appeal to the public to report such incidents to their local police agency.
