Fatal Highway 101 Crash Claims Life of Brookings Pedestrian

CURRY COUNTY, Ore. — Oregon State Police (OSP), who responded to a vehicle versus pedestrian crash on Highway 101, near milepost 359, in Curry County on Saturday at 10:49 p.m., confirmed that the pedestrian injured in the crash, 

William Donald Zehdner (63) of Brookings, passed away from his injuries in hospital.

The Brookings Police Department and Harbor Fire assisted OSP.

According to the preliminary OSP investigation, a northbound Ford F150, operated by Gerald Eugene Stewart (37) of Crescent City (CA), struck a Zehdner who was in the lane of travel. Zehnder was transported to a local emergency room, where he was declared deceased. The Ford driver was reportedly uninjured.

Highway 101 was affected for about 3.5 hours during the investigation at the accident site, and the cause of the crash is under investigation.
