Fire at RCC’s Medford Campus: Two Young Men Charged with Arson
MEDFORD, Ore. — Two young men have been charged with arson following a fire at Rogue Community College’s Medford campus on Wednesday.
Christian McLennan (18) of Medford and Nathan Svinth (20) of Central Point appeared in the Jackson County Circuit Court on Thursday, charged with first-degree arson and reckless endangerment of another person.
The two men are alleged to have intentionally and illegally damaged property on 101 S Bartlett Street, the RCC campus, where they started a fire and caused an explosion, according to court documents.
The premises are home to the RCC/Southern Oregon University Higher Education Center.
Earlier in the week, firefighters were called to the same address after someone placed a stapler in a microwave. Students had to be evacuated from the premises.
