Fleeing Josephine County Felon with Attempted Murder Warrant Apprehended by K9 Officer in Wild Chase
JOSEPHINE COUNTY, Ore. — After fleeing from a traffic stop near Fish Hatchery Road and Colin Road in his white van on Saturday at about 7:24 pm, 48-year-old Jack Conklin, who has an active felony warrant, fled to the east, where the Josephine County Sheriff’s Office (JCSO) caught up with him a few miles later. Police deployed K9 Officer Yana, who detained Conklin.
After Conklin fled the traffic stop, police established that he had an active felony warrant issued by the Oregon Parole Board, with underlying charges including Attempted Murder, Assault II x 3, Coercion, and Kidnapping.
Conklin fled on Fish Hatchery Road before turning onto Cheney Creek Road. About four miles up the dirt section of Cheney Creek Road, Conklin abruptly stopped in the middle of the roadway and fled on foot.
According to the reporting JCSO deputy, Lieutenant Jim Geiger, K-9 Yana followed Conklin down a steep embankment, where Yana successfully detained him.
Conklin was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment of a dog bite sustained during his apprehension.
After being medically cleared, he was lodged at the Josephine County Jail for his outstanding Felony Warrant and on charges of Felony Elude, Misdemeanor Elude, and Reckless Driving.
