Amazon God of War Series

Based on PlayStation‘s hugely popular ancient mythology-themed video game ‘God of War’ which spanned seven games across four PlayStation consoles since its 2005 launch on PlayStation 2, the storyline around the series continues the franchise from Sony’s Santa Monica Studio.

The protagonist, ex-Spartan warrior Kratos is on a perilous journey to exact revenge on the Ares, the Greek God of War. Under the deity’s influence, Kratos kills his loved ones, becoming the ruthless God of War himself. The storyline unfolds as Kratos finds himself constantly looking for an opportunity to change his fate.

The executive producers of the TV series are Santa Monica Studio’s creative director Cory Barlog and Jeff Ketcham, PlayStation Productions’ Asad Qizilbash and Carter Swan, and Sony Interactive Entertainment’s Hermen Hulst and Vertigo’s Roy Lee.

‘God Of War’ New Showrunner Announced

Represented by by CAA and Hansen, Jacobson, and Teller, Moore’s appointment follows the recent exit of the ‘God of War’s’ original creative team who were with the project since inception two and a half years ago, executive producer/showrunner Rafe Judkins and executive producers Hawk Ostby and Mark Fergus.

Multiple scripts had been completed before the changeover, and the new team marks a shift in the creative direction of the series adaptation.

Since returning to Sony TV in June with a new multi-year deal, God Of War is the first major new project for Moore.

Following a successful 10-year run that delivered two long-running, hit series, Moore left the studio in 2020.

He was responsible for Outlander for Starz and For All Mankind for Apple TV+ which are still ongoing four years later, and have since become franchises with upcoming offshoots: Star City and Blood of My Blood. Moore is an executive producer on the original series and the spinoffs.

Moore also executive produced two other projects that turned into series during his previous stint at Sony TV, including Philip K. Dick’s Electric Dreams for Prime Video and the award-winning Battlestar Galactica for Syfy via UCP, which Moore also developed.
