Gunshot Clue Unravels Portland Trailer Death as Homicide Investigation Intensifies

After the Portland Police Bureau (PPB) indicated earlier this week that a suspicious body had been found in a trailer in the Lents neighborhood, near Southeast 84th Avenue and Southeast Insley Street, on Thursday, February 20, reports have now confirmed that the victim has been identified as Jeremiah S. McKenzie, 37, of Portland and a gunshot wound was established to be the cause of his death.

McKenzie’s family has been notified of his death but has asked for privacy at this difficult time. They did, however, release the photos appearing on this page for public release.

Portland Police officers assigned to East Precinct officers attending the scene initially determined the incident to be a suspicious death, but the Medical Examiner has, in the meantime, determined that McKenzie died of homicide by gunshot wound.

The PPB investigation remains ongoing, and Portland police ask anyone with information about this incident to please contact:

  • Detective Matt Brown at (503) 823-0859 or email [email protected], or
  • Detective Ryan Foote at (503) 823-0781 or email [email protected],
