Hit-And-Run Driver Smashes into Second Vehicle While Attempting to Escape from Milwaukie Police
CLACKAMAS COUNTY, Ore. — After slamming head-on into an oncoming vehicle, the driver fled the scene in his badly damaged vehicle before crashing into a stationary car and surrendering to Milwaukie law enforcement officers.
Victim of Head-On was Injured and Admitted to Hospital
The incident occurred shortly before 9.05 p.m. on Saturday on the 6700 block of SE Harmony Road. The victim of the head-on was injured and admitted to hospital, where he underwent treatment. His injuries were said to be significant but not life-threatening.
Police spotted the fleeing driver, whose vehicle had severe front-end damage, near SE Linwood Avenue and SE Harmony Road. The driver, who was later identified as Fredy Sales Cardoza (28) of Milwaukie, ignored attempts by the police to stop him and continued to drive away.
Smashed into a Second Vehicle in Apartment Parking Lot
Cardoza turned into the parking lot of an apartment complex near the 12500 block and SE Linwood Avenue, where he smashed into a parked vehicle and was forced to surrender when police vehicles blocked further escape.
When Cardoza exited his vehicle, he continued his attempt to flee from the police, this time on foot, but was quickly overcome and arrested by officers.
Police investigations revealed that Cardoza was responsible for the initial accident after smashing head-on into an oncoming vehicle.
He was taken to Clackamas County Jail on charges of hit-and-run with injury and with property damage, driving under the influence of intoxicants, and attempting to escape from police both in a vehicle and on foot. Police are investigating additional charges.
