Ice And Fog In Jackson County: Perilous Roads Lead To 6 Crashes On Table Rock Road
JACKSON COUNTY, Ore. — Law enforcement officers urged drivers to reduce speed and exercise extreme caution when traveling through the Rogue Valley area.
The icy conditions across the country have led to several crashes, including six on Table Rock Road before 9 a.m. yesterday.
6 Crashes On Table Rock Road In Ice And Fog
On Table Rock road, the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office (JCSO) responded to six motor vehicle crashes, including three rollovers in the early morning alone. The crashes were attributed to significantly reduced visibility from icy conditions and dense fog across the Rogue Valley.
Jackson County Fire District 3 together with Mercy Flights responded to the incidents, and multiple people were transported to local hospitals.
Traffic was then diverted to avoid multiple rollover crashes on both sides of the 90-degree corner of Table Rock Road, just south of Wheeler Road and west of Pumice Lane.
Rural Metro Fire also responded to two crashes within a 30-minute window in Grants Pass, on the Highland Overpass. While the second crash was a rollover, the occupant got out of the vehicle, and several occupants were admitted to the hospital with minor injuries.
Dangerous Driving Conditions In Rogue Valley
In Jackson and Josephine counties, crews are working to sand icy sections of roadways. The area near the 90-degree corner of Table Rock Road, located south of Wheeler Road and west of Pumice Lane was worst affected by the weather conditions.
The Jackson County Roads teams are continuing efforts to improve road safety, but urge extreme caution on the roads.
Law enforcement officials said that as roads are icy and heavy fog is limiting visibility through much of the Rogue Valley, drivers are reminded to stay alert and prioritize safety during these hazardous conditions and allow extra time for travel, especially when using overpasses, which are highly susceptible to ice buildup due to cold air underneath.
Drivers should stay vigilant as the foggy conditions throughout the Rogue Valley are limiting visibility.
