Investigator Appointed to Reinforce Policing Against the Illegal Drug Trade in Southern Oregon

MEDFORD, Ore. — The appointment of a full-time investigator will reinforce measures to clamp down on illegal drug trafficking in Southern Oregon by MADGE, a local task force initiative.

 

Drug Task Force Has Confiscated Large Amounts of Cocaine, Fentanyl, Methamphetamine, Cash and Firearms

The appointment follows the confiscation this year by MADGE of six pounds of cocaine, 12 pounds of fentanyl pills, four pounds of fentanyl powder, and 138 pounds of methamphetamine in Jackson County.

Also confiscated by the task force were $90,000 in cash and 46 firearms.

The Medford Area Drug and Gang Enforcement (MADGE) task force polices Illicit drug activities. The appointment of a full-time investigator will reinforce efforts to curtail illegal drug trafficking throughout Southern Oregon.

Medford Police Department has appointment of an investigator by Eagle Point City to help expand drug combatting measures in Jackson County communities. Lieutenant Kerry Curtis says the addition of Eagle Point to the local task force initiative will help expand knowledge of illicit drug activities throughout the county.

Replying, police chief at Eagle Point Jim Hamilton describes drug abuse as a crisis facing communities throughout Southern Oregon. He says the collaboration with MADGE will also give Eagle Point the resources needed to deal with drug activities in their community.

MADGE is a local initiative task force and apart from members of the Medford Police Department, is made up by representatives from the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), Homeland Security Investigations, the District Attorney’s Office, Parole and Probations, and the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office.

Apart from illicit drug crimes and activities within Southern Oregon, as a multi-agency narcotics task force MADGE also focuses on state and international drug traffickers. MADGE is an intelligence-drive organization, supported by the Oregon-Idaho High-Intensity Drug Trafficking Area program that is sponsored by the Office of National Drug Control Policy.
