Jackson County Sheriff’s Office Urges Public to Secure Valuables Amid Rising Vehicle Break-Ins at Recreation Area Parking Lots
JACKSON COUNTY, Ore. — In light of the increasing number of motor vehicle break-ins at local recreation area parking lots, the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office (JCSO) warned the public to take precautions in recreation areas.
JCSO deputies are investigating several Unlawful Entry into a Motor Vehicle (UEMV) incidents recently at the Table Rock hiking trail parking lots in rural Central Point and the Rogue River Ti’Lomikh Falls day-use parking lot in Gold Hill.
Patrols have been stepped up in these areas, but the JCSO urged the public to be cautious.
JSCO advised the public to take these precautions when visiting recreation areas:
- Be aware of the potential for break-ins when visiting recreation areas.
- If belongings are visible from outside the vehicle, the chance that a thief will target your vehicle increases.
- Please don’t leave valuables in your car: Leave them at home or carry them with you.
- If you have to leave valuables or belongings in your vehicle, hide them out of sight.
If you are the victim of a UEMV, call Emergency Communications of Southern Oregon ECSO 911 non-emergency at (541) 776-7206.
