Jackson Park in Medford Set for Major Renovation with New Pool, Splash Pad, and Dog Park

MEDFORD, Ore. — The City Council approved a resolution on March 5 to apply for a state grant of up to $1 million to supplement funds from the City’s Park Improvement Fund to renovate Jackson Park in West Medford.

Jackson Park Planned Renovations

Medford’s Parks, Recreation, and Facilities Department will apply for the 2025 State of Oregon Local Government Large Grant, due by April 1, 2025. The city seeks up to $1 million, which requires a 50% match.

The city can meet this target if the 2025-27 biennial budget includes the requested $1.4 million from the Park Improvement Fund.

Situated next to Jackson Elementary School, Jackson Park has served the community since its construction in the 1960s.

The master plan was adopted by the Parks and Recreation Commission in 2022 after a public input process, and the renovation project has been listed as an approved capital improvement project for the past two City budget cycles.

Planned upgrades at Jackson Park, at an estimated cost of $2.3 million, include

  • Renovations to the 1960s-era pool building
  • Refurbished restroom facilities
  • A large dog park
  • New picnic areas
  • A large splash pad
  • Sandy volleyball courts
  • A bike skills area
  • Continued improvements to nearby Fagone Field.

The work will be completed in phases as funding becomes available. If the grant is not forthcoming, the project will continue with the $1.4 million from the Park Improvement Fund. Additional funding would then be allocated from the City’s 2027-29 biennial budget.
