Joann Craft Store Bankruptcy Proposal to Close Half of All Locations Nationwide, Including Grants Pass Store

National fabric and crafts retailer Joann filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy on Wednesday and sought court approval to close over half its stores. This filing is the second in under a year, and two Southern Oregon stores, including Joann Grants Pass, will be closed.

Joann’s motion to shutter approximately 533 of its 800 U.S. locations comes as the company seeks to right-size its store footprint. It indicated this is “a critical part of the efforts to ensure the best path forward for Joann.”

After over 80 years in business, the company emphasized its commitment to serving its customers during the restructuring process. No timeline for the closures or details on the effect on employees have been made available yet.

Fifteen stores across Oregon, including Joann Grants Pass and Klamath Falls, are set to close. However, the Medford Joann’s at Poplar Square in north Medford will remain open.
