Josephine County Police Arrest DUII Driver Who Crashed Into Fire Truck In Cave Junction
The Josephine County Sheriff’s office reported that a driver, 63-year-old Alec James Varner, who crashed into a stationary Illinois Valley Fire District (IVFD) engine shortly before midday on Wednesday, was arrested after failing field sobriety tests.
Sherriff’s deputies responding to the crash on February 26 at the 76 Gas Station in Cave Junction established that a private vehicle driven by Varner had collided with the fire truck on-site for refueling.
Officers noted on arrival that Varner exhibited signs of intoxication, which resulted in his arrest for Driving Under the Influence of Intoxicants (DUII).
No injuries were reported. While both vehicles sustained minor damage, the IVFD fire truck remains operational, and police indicated it will continue to serve the community without interruption.
The Josephine County Sheriff’s Office again urged all motorists to make responsible choices to ensure their safety and that of the community.
