Lane County Police Help Lost Mushroom Picker Get Home For Christmas

A Lane County Sheriff’s Office (LCSO) search and rescue team who searched for a person who got lost while out picking mushrooms on Christmas Eve managed to find them on Christmas morning, in time to celebrate.

Responding to a report of a person who had gone out to pick mushrooms in the Big Fall Creek area who had gone missing at about 6 p.m. on December 24, deputies searched until the early morning hours but without success.

Police indicated that the person was somewhat prepared for the wet and chilly weather but not geared up to stay out overnight.

The dedicated searchers returned to the area on Christmas morning and, aided by a drone, found the person at about 10 a.m. on Christmas Day.

The missing person was warmed up and given dry clothes by LCSO officials before hiking out of the area. The missing person was reunited with their friends soon thereafter.
