The FBI has warned law enforcement agencies about the potential for copycats who may try to mimic the recent New Orleans attack. After receiving the warning, local law enforcement agencies have been placed on heightened alert.
Copycats May Try To Mimic New Orleans Attack
The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) sent out a joint intelligence bulletin warning law enforcement agencies across the US about the potential for copycats who may try to copy the attack in New Orleans elsewhere.
While police have said ISIS inspired the New Orleans suspect, the group has not claimed responsibility for the attack, but calls for motor vehicle attacks and other low-technology-but-deadly-efficient ways of killing victims in mass have been made by ISIS in recent months.
Police have been advised to look for signs of possible copycat attacks, including using fraudulent IDs and credit cards to rent vehicles and pre-operational surveillance.
Many people and organizations have expressed concern about a potential copycat attack. Still, most have resolved not to let this interfere with their daily lives.
The FBI regularly shares information with law enforcement partners to assist in protecting the communities it serves.
The FBI indicated that the nation remains in a heightened threat environment and is watchful for potential threats to public safety. The FBI will work with partners to establish credibility, share information, and take the appropriate investigative action.
All threats are taken seriously, and the FBI requested members of the public to report anything they consider suspicious to law enforcement immediately.
