Trial Starts For Murder Of Brittany Lovrovich In Medford Bar

In March 2022, Brittany Laine Lovrovich died in a parking lot next to Rumors Lounge in Medford. Police have indicated that she was stabbed by Martin during a drug robbery after meeting Lovrovich between Rumors and the OK Market.  Martin and her boyfriend Zackary Helwagen met with her to buy fentanyl.

Initially charged with second-degree murder and first-degree robbery in March 2022, Martin’s amended indictment last fall added a further second-degree murder charge, that tied Lovrovich’s death to the robbery. Helwagen was charged due to his involvement in intentionally causing the death of Lovrovich.

In Martin’s case, the latest indictment reflects the pair’s alleged unlawful and intentional commission or attempted commission of the crime of Robbery in the First Degree. It also extends to immediate flight from the crime in furtherance of the crime defendants were committing or attempting to commit. Helwagen’s trial is set down for hearing for two weeks in September.

The indictment says, “Hannah Martin caused the death of Brittany Laine Lovrovich, another human being who was not a participant in the crime.”

This morning started with jury selection and the opening statements and testimony will follow. The trial is scheduled to be heard through Friday.
