Medford Residents Can Search Local Crime Mapping Portal
MEDFORD, Ore. — Medford residents now have access to a new crime mapping portal. Hosted by the Geoshield Communities program, the Medford Police Department (MPD) introduced a portal allowing the community to view crimes reported in the city.
Medford Community Can Search Crime Mapping Portal
Medford’s crime mapping portal has customizable settings and filters, enabling the public to search for crime incidents by specific areas and types of crime.
Aimed at enhancing community awareness and fostering proactive safety measures, MPD Deputy Chief Trevor Arnold indicated that the goal is to build trust between law enforcement and the community, encourage proactive safety measures, and enhance community awareness.
The crime map can be accessed on the Geoshield Communities portal.
Each entry reflects the date and time of the report and a case number. The crime map does have some limitations which include the following:
- There are no real-time updates.
- The addresses of reported incidents only show the vicinity of the occurrence, not the precise locations.
- Certain types of crimes are excluded.
Medford residents can submit a Public Records Request via the Medford Police Department’s website to access more specific details about a particular case.
Designed to provide easily accessible information to the community and promote transparency, the crime map portal is not intended as a platform to report crimes and is not an official record of crime statistics.
Chief Arnold confirmed that the portal is an important step towards making Medford a safer place by making the information accessible to everyone.
