Raiders vs Montana College Football Game Highlights

Montana Tech’s (4-1 overall, 2-1 Frontier) seventh-straight victory over the Raiders was their first home game in over a month.

They found momentum early and maintained it throughout the game. Highlights of Saturday’s game included:

  • At the opening kickoff, Levi Torgerson got the scoring started when he found a lane and ran 95 yards to the endzone. This week’s game took place just one week after his brother, Kyle, received a potentially game-ending injury against the College of Idaho. Senior quarterback Blake Thelen acknowledged that Torgerson had been a game-changer since day one and the kickoff was the best possible start to the game. Orediggers head coach Kyle Samson is pretty proud of Levi.
  • The Orediggers were close to unstoppable with a perfect 2-for-2 on fourth down and an average of almost 7 yards a play.
  • Landers Smith had another bruising day with 150 yards of offense (94 rushing, 56 receiving)
  • Thelen completed 17 out of 22 passes for 225 yards, avoided getting sacked, and recorded 3TDs.
  • While the defense gave up almost 500 yards, they made the most of the stops they got and managed to recover three fumbles. The Orediggers stayed in front throughout.

Coach Samson commented that to win championships, they will have to refocus and bring it every week. The Orediggers are now set to shake up the Frontier Conference standings, maybe starting at next week’s critical rivalry clash at No. 9 Montana Western (3-1, 1-1) on Oct. 12 in Dillon.

As the Raiders drop down to 4-1 overall on the season and 1-1 in the Frontier, Carroll (4-1, 3-0)  is now the last undefeated team in conference play.
