Murdered Oregon Nurse Court Hearing Lasts 90 Seconds

Bryce J. Schubert attended a 90-second court hearing via a live stream video from prison, in which he is accused of murdering a Providence St. Vincent Medical Center nurse married scarcely a month.

Two top Washington prosecutors and two defense attorneys appeared in Portland on Monday to give an update on their progress to Circuit Court Judge Rebecca Guptill.

Melissa Jubane was murdered on 4 September 2024. Police were alerted when she failed to appear for work.

Schubert was Arrested the Same Day Her Body was Found

Her body was found two days later, and Schubert was arrested the same day. He lived in an apartment across the hall from Jubane in Beaverton.

Schubert (28), who has been incarcerated ever since, is facing charges of first-degree murder and kidnapping, and second-degree abuse of a corpse.

The Case is an Ongoing and Complicated Investigation

Defense attorney Greg Scholl told the judge that he had recently received more evidence and needed extra time to review his case. He said the Schubert case was an ongoing and complicated investigation.

Judge Guptill accepted the request and rescheduled another status hearing for 10 March.

Schubert also worked as a nurse but at a different Providence hospital to Jubane (32). His live-in girlfriend at the time of the murder was also employed as a nurse at the same Providence hospital as the murdered woman.

Monday’s brief court hearing was attended by several members of the Schubert family.
