New Gun Ownership Laws Will Clamp Down on Who, Where, and When Oregonians Can Buy and Carry Firearms

Oregonians prohibited from owning firearms who attempt to buy one will be reported to law enforcement agencies, parole and probation officers, and the courts.

This is just one of the stipulations in new legislation under the scrutiny of lawmakers who are considering imposing stricter gun ownership laws within the state.

Gun dealers and Buyers Will Have to Cool Their Heels for 72 Hours

Oregon lawmakers are debating a bill to introduce a mandatory 72-hour wait period while firearm purchases are validated. Gun dealers and buyers will have to cool their heels for 72 hours, even if a background check results in immediate approval.

Background checks must include confirmation of a valid permit to purchase a firearm, ID documentation, and fingerprint verification.

Oregon State Police will have to report anyone not allowed to purchase a firearm, and who attempts to do so, to law enforcement agencies, parole and probation officers, and the courts within 24 hours.

Ownership of Rapid-Fire Activators Will Be Illegal and Age Restriction Will Be Imposed

Possession of ‘rapid-fire activators’ to increase the rate of fire, such as dual triggers, auto sears, and bump stocks, will be classified as Class A misdemeanors. The manufacture or transfer of such devices will be classified as a Class B felony.

The bill also proposes raising the minimum age for gun ownership from 18 to 21 years. However, ownership of firearms like shotguns and bolt-action rifles will be legal for ages 18 to 20.

Exemption will be given to members of law enforcement and the military while on duty. However, they will not be allowed the carry firearms off-duty if they are under 21.

Holders of Concealed Handgun Licenses (CHL) will no longer be able to carry weapons into schools, airports, and government buildings where mandatory signage appears.

I love Oregon. It is to bad the woke continue to strive to take our rights away. They never hold the punks and idiots responsible for their behavior. They promote things that tear down our country and mislead our kids. They have little or no belief in God. They teach the kids in grade school thru college their ideology laughing at the beliefs taught at home and church, I saw kids in college {young adults} afraid to speak in class. Afraid of being criticized for their beliefs by their pears and the institution. What is so wrong with just saying no? Why promote premarital sex? Why promote abortion? Why do they promote violence during protest? There is no accountability. They tie the hands of the police and the judicial system. They are great for defending the poor protesters taking over streets burning buildings and destroying property. Allowing the homeless and poor drug addicts to do what they want without any accountability. Maybe they could pick up their trash. Maybe they could accept help. They don’t want to follow the rules. The minority tells the majority how it’s going to be. Oligarchy rules. Really? Guns don’t kill people …people kill people. This is a choice. How about this do the crime HOLD CRIMINALS ACOUNTABLE not the law-abiding citizens! Fight Fight Fight. I know this doesn’t apply to all but most. Quit punishing us instead of stupids! Let us have free camping and if stupids come in and don’t want to follow the rules kick them out and arrest them for damage{ Basendorf beach} don’t keep us from camping. Stop blocking our beach accesses because of stupid’s. Stop blocking our river accesses because of stupid’s {Dole bar Myrtle Creek}. Our guns are for protection against stupid’s. Leave us alone! We are supposed to be a free people not a regulated one just to make money for the state. Well guess i am done venting.

does the state of Oregon even understand the US constitution? “shall not be infringed”, pretty blunt. I would see this as infringement of the 2nd amendment. People are just stupid and afraid of anything they don’t understand.

What other constitutionally guaranteed rights require a license, fees, etc. before exercising them?

Oregon officials they always punish the law abiding citizens instead of having the judges apply the law to criminals and do not cut them loose so they can go and do whatever they want and since the oregon officials do not know how to address the problem they do what they do all the time making it hard to buy or own a gun to the law abiding citizens that never commited a crime , my question is with those regulations they believe they are going to make the criminals abide by the new regulations

This bill will not make me purchase any firearms any different than i have for the last 50 years. It will cause a lot of people to purchase guns from private citizens and no sale will be registered with any government agents, local or federal. The comment earlier is true that it is a waste of tax dollars.

This new bill is a waste of tax payers dollars! First off, you already can’t own a handgun or semi-Auto rifle until your 21, anyone with an FFL that gets a denial or someone who they find out is a felon and is attempting to purchase ( or even in the gun department) you already have to notify OSP AND Local Law Enforcement..
the only changes here is they are trying to bypass the already unconstitutional Measure 114.. by putting it in a “Bill” and declaring an emergency they are simply bullying thier way to thier own agendas! Just like HB3076, raising FFL renewal fees..you’re going to hurt small mom & pop businesses… the big companies can afford it but the locals will be eliminated all together…and don’t even get me started on the myth that it will reduce suicides by having a 72 hour hold…people who are suicidal don’t usually think about it too much… even if they are instant approvals ~ they don’t take the time to go purchase a gun for that specific purpose… and literally over 75% of all firearm related suicides were not accomplished by a gun that was even thiers!
Quit being fear-bullied into thinking this is in any way Constitutional folks ~ due your due diligence and research… you’ll find every word I spoke is the truth
