1.1 Million Oregonians Will be Traveling by Road, Air, Rail and Sea for Thanksgiving Weekend

With Thanksgiving less than a week away, more than one million Oregonians will travel between November 26 and December 2, according to AAA Oregon/Idaho.

Heading for the Woods and Over the River

AAA public affairs director, Marie Dodds says 1.1 million Oregonians will be heading to the woods and over the river for the annual family get-together and feast of turkey with all the trimmings.

The AAA is expecting 984,000 Oregonians to take to the road, and 114,000 will travel by air to their holiday destinations.

Dodds says the AAA has never seen as many Oregonians with Thanksgiving travel plans.

‘People will be driving, flying, and cruising over the holidays so, wherever you go expect lots of company,’ warns Dodds.

Oregon Has Three of the Top 10 Listed Holiday Destinations

With three of the 10 top-listed cities as regional destinations, Oregon can expect all commuter corridors to be bustling.

Ashland, Central Point, and Medford are the three cities in Oregon that offer a winning combination over the holidays – great outdoors, spectacular scenery, and lots to see and do.

Adding to their attraction is that all three have easy access to the main commuter belts.

79.9 Million of the U.S. Population Will Travel for Thanksgiving

The AAA is expecting 23.6% or 79.9 million of the U.S. population will travel at least 50 miles from home for Thanksgiving – an increase of 2.1% compared to last year.

Most Americans will be driving to their holiday destinations – 72 million people will take to the roads, 2% more than in 2023.

Taking to the skies will be 5.8 million travelers, the most airline passengers since Thanksgiving in 2005.

There is an increase of almost 9% in the number of Americans choosing to travel by train, bus, and cruise ship.

Happy Thanksgiving, everyone. And travel safely.
