Oregon Caregiver Who Stole Money From 91-year-old Patient Gets Time In Jail
A Cottage Grove caregiver, Ashley Wright-Grable, 34, accused of stealing money from a 91-year-old patient between October 2023 and June 2024, has been sentenced to 30 days in jail yesterday.
Court documents indicate that Wright-Grable, the caretaker for an elderly Cottage Grove man, was responsible for grocery shopping and housekeeping.
A healthcare representative noticed that the man’s monthly grocery bill went up from $254 in October 2023 to nearly $4,000 by June 2024—the months since Wright-Grable started working for him.
Although the checks had been written out to Wright-Grable- who police questioned in October 2024, she admitted to paying herself. Wright-Grable said she was a single mother with three children on disability.
On October 28 last year, Wright-Grable was arraigned on charges of first-degree criminal mistreatment and first-degree theft. Yesterday, February 5, she was convicted of the charges. She was sentenced to 30 days in jail and faces three years of probation after being released.
