Oregon Deliveryman Claims $118k from City of Portland After Attack by an Unrestrained Police Dog

An Oregon deliveryman, bitten by an off-leash police dog while delivering packages from Amazon Flex to a home in Clackamas County in January, is suing the City of Portland after spending nearly $18,000 in medical expenses to treat his injuries.

Khalid Fasasi is claiming $118,000 in damages, claiming he was attacked by Tex, a Portland police German Shepherd attached to the K-9 unit, as he approached the residence.

Fasasi said the weight of the unrestrained dog threw him to the ground. The dog attacked him and had to be pulled away from him.

Court records say Fasasi strained his neck, back tendons, and muscles, and suffered a puncture wound to his left forearm. He spent nearly $18,000 on medical expenses.

Tex belonged to Kameron Fender, a Portland police K-9 officer.

Fasasi alleges negligence to ensure that the German Shepherd was adequately controlled and restrained. He also alleges that the city failed to properly train or supervise Fender.

The Fasasi case follows a similar suit in October last year when Kristina and Jason Norris were awarded a $500,000 settlement after being bitten by a Portland police dog while on a walk in 2021.
