Oregon Drug Courier Stashing 135 Pounds of Meth for Mexican Cartel Sentenced to Nearly Five Years Before Deportation

An Oregon courier for a Mexican drug cartel who had 135 pounds of methamphetamine worth $189,000 stashed in the trunk of his car was sentenced to four years and nine months in federal prison on Monday. He will be deported back to Mexico on completion of his jail term.

Fausto Antonio Aspeitia Mojica was arrested by the FBI last October following an investigation by the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration.

His Home Was a Drug Stash House

His home in the Marion County city of Silverton was used as a drug stash house, according to investigators.

A search warrant for his property was obtained by the  FBI after an informant set up three appointments to buy drugs from Mojica. A search of his vehicle at a traffic stop on 17 October 2024 uncovered seven pounds of methamphetamine packed in one-pound bags.

His property was then searched and the large stash of meth was found in a duffel bag. Investigators all seized two rifles found in a closet of the main bedroom, an automatic rifle with no serial number, a handgun found in a drawer, and more than $1,300 in cash.

Monday’s sentence of less than five years in a federal prison was based on the fact that Majica had immediately taken responsibility for his drug dealings and had a limited criminal history.

According to the prosecutor, Assistant U.S. Attorney Lewis Burkhart, Mojica was a minor role player in the Mexican drug trafficking organization and held a legitimate job as a roofer for a construction company.

Mojica had pleaded guilty to possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine when he appeared in court in January.

Mojica faces deportation to Mexico on completion of his sentence because he is an illegal citizen in the U.S.
