Oregon Ducks vs UCLA Bruins Game Highlights

Touchdown - Oregon Ducks VS UCLA - September 2024

280 yards and 3 touchdowns, Dillon Gabriel looked good and  Tez Johnson’s 11 catches for 121 yards and 2 TDs looked great. Giving up only six points with 4 sacks and 7 tackles for loss, the Duck’s defense dominated. Other highlights of Saturday night’s game were:

Ducks Offense Is Clicking: Finishing with 433 total yards and averaging 5.6 yards per play, the Ducks went 9-for-14 on third downs. Four plays of more than 15 yards included a 38-yard pass to Traeshon Holden and a 52-yard TD pass to Tez Johnson. There was a tendency to lose rhythm from time to time and the Ducks will need to work on their consistency.

The Defense Dominated:  Bearing in mind that UCLA is not good on offense- averaging just 15 points per game coming into this contest, the Ducks still held UCLA’s offense to just six points. UCLA’s defense sacked Ethan Garbers four times and scored their team’s only touchdown on a 96-yard pick-six from Bryan Addison.

Bruins also racked up 7 tackles for loss and held just 47 yards rushing. UCLA was forced to punt five times with a 1-for-10 third-down conversion rate but the Ducks did get two interceptions and four pass break-ups.

Duck’s Terrance Ferguson Head Injury

Head Injury - Oregon Ducks

After going down with a head injury after going for a catch over the middle of the field early in the game, Oregon tight end Terrance Ferguson was leveled by former Duck Bryan Addison.

After being knocked to the turf, he stayed down for a bit then got up and jogged off the field under his own power, but he did he looked a little shaky.

It seems likely that Ferguson’s concussion will mean he will miss the next game. Still, there is hope he can return for the Week 7 game against the Ohio State Buckeyes when the Ducks will need him most.

Penalties remain a Duck’s issue, getting flagged 6 times for 49 yards on Saturday despite coming into the game ranked 72nd nationwide with 56.67 penalty yards per game.

Many of the flags are easily fixable- the Ducks got called for two false starts, an illegal motion, and an illegal snap on offense. The other flags were for a pass interference and a personal foul on defense.

Nonetheless, the Ducks can be proud of their game but there is room for improvement going forward.
