Oregon Father Indicted Over Fentanyl Death of His Infant Daughter

Yesterday, a Coos Bay man, David Sigler, 32, was indicted by a Coos County grand jury for allegedly killing his 22-month-old daughter in fall 2024.

He is charged with criminally negligent homicide and criminal mistreatment. Sigler was arraigned on February 12 in the Coos County Circuit Court.

Coos Bay Father Indicted On Charges Following Daughter’s Death

Court records indicated that 22-month-old Delilah Sigler died on October 2, 2024. The Coos Bay Police Department said Delilah’s death was the result of a fentanyl overdose, and her father is accused of withholding necessary physical and medical care from her.

Sigler was convicted of possessing fentanyl in December 2024 and served 30 days in jail. He was then sentenced to three years of probation but violated his probation in January 2025, leading to his arrest on January 27, according to court records.

Coos County District Attorney Paul Frasier says in a document that the state will seek a departure sentence if Sigler is found guilty. A departure sentence is harsher than the usual guidelines for sentencing.

Frasier indicates that Sigler lacks empathy or sympathy for the victim or his criminal conduct and says further efforts to rehabilitate him will not be successful. He asks the court to note that there is a need to ensure the security of the public as Sigler is unwilling to conform to the requirements of the law.

Sigler is being held on $50,000 bail and is due back in court on February 19 to discuss pre-trial release.
