Oregon Girl Sues Friend’s Father for Lacing her Smoothie with Drugs
A 12-year-old girl who was drugged after drinking a fruit smoothie at a sleepover is suing her friend’s father for $2.4 million. He was convicted and jailed for the crime.
Identified only by her initials, the girl, together with her father, Scott Horsfield is suing Michael Meyden for intentional and negligent infliction of emotional distress and battery.
The lawsuit, filed earlier this week at the Clackamas County Circuit Court, lists Meyden and his former wife, Yukiko Meyden, as defendants. The girl’s father is listed as a plaintiff in the case.
Meyden Served Drug-Laced Smoothies to Three Friends of his Daughter
Earlier this year, Michael Meyden was jailed for two years in the Columbia River Correctional Institution in Portland after he pleaded guilty to three counts of causing another person to ingest a controlled substance when he hosted a sleepover in 2023. His wife was not charged.
At his conviction hearing, Meyden confessed to spiking the fruit smoothies. Two of the girls blacked out, while a third girl, who only took a small sip, texted her mother to fetch her because she feared Meyden’s strange behavior.
According to prosecutors and court records, the three girls were admitted to Randall Children’s Hospital in Portland the following morning. All were tested positive for benzodiazepine. All three girls were 12 years old when the incident occurred.
Meyden’s 12-year-old daughter also tested positive for benzodiazepine, prosecutors said.
During a search of Meyden’s home, police took possession of bottles of a sedative called Temazepam, two blenders, a mortar and pestle, reusable straws, and computer equipment.
Temazepam is a benzodiazepine used in the treatment of anxiety and insomnia.
Counsel for Meyden in the criminal case, Mark. C. Cogan said his client expressed profound remorse about his conduct.
