Best Things About Oregon In The Fall

Heading into the Pacific Northwest, Oregon ranked first for wineries per 100,000 residents, and second for the expected peak fall foliage days. The total acreage of forest land was also a factor.

Mt. Hood Railroad’s scenic Fall Train is a fall activity favorite when visiting Oregon and boarding Fall’s Halloween Train in Hood River is highly recommended.

Although Western states have a slightly shorter leaf-peeping season overall of 10 or 11 weeks, this year their trees are predicted to hold peak color for a longer period this year, although plant and foliage cycles are complex, with climate stresses like temperature, precipitation, and natural disasters affecting timing, color, and length of fall foliage.

Alaska and Hawaii were not included in the survey because of a lack of fall foliage data but Vermont, Michigan, and Virginia ranked fourth, fifth, and sixth on the list.
