Oregon Man Killed While Thwarting Robbery; Two Teens Arrested in Portland
Two teenage boys, aged 15 and 16, have been arrested in connection with the murder of a 47-year-old Portland resident, Jonathan Trent, who is believed was shot while trying to stop a robbery suspect.
The Teenagers are Aged 15 and 16
Yesterday (Thursday), officers from the Portland Police Bureau (PPB) arrested a 15-year-old charged with murder and robbery. He is in custody at the Donald E. Long Juvenile Detention Center.
Police arrested a 16-year-old the previous day. He is also at the juvenile center charged with murder and robbery.
According to a news release from the PPB, the 16-year-old is also believed to be involved in a string of robberies earlier in the month.
A third suspect, another 15-year-old known to the other two teenagers was arrested for a robbery on New Year’s Day.
The U.S. Marshals Service, Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office, and the Multnomah County District Attorney’s Office all assisted in the case.
Shooting Took Place at a Business in Hazelwood
The shooting of Jonathan Trent took place in the Hazelwood neighborhood on 13 January.
It is believed that Trent witnessed the robbery and was shot while trying to stop the suspect.
The incident occurred at 3.50 p.m. at a Hazelwood business premises in the 1100 block of Northeast 102nd Avenue.
East Precinct officers were alerted and, on their arrival, found Trent in the parking lot, suffering from a gunshot wound. He was transported to hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival.
