Oregon Man Lying On Railroad Tracks Killed By Train

Emergency personnel from the Salem Police Department responded to reports of a train crash on the railroad tracks near the intersection of 22nd ST & Claxter RD NE at approximately 11:30 a.m. on Sunday.

Samuel Lewis Hecocta, 35, of Salem, who was lying on the tracks, had been hit by a passing train and was declared deceased at the scene.

What appeared to be a person lying on the tracks was observed and reported by a Union Pacific rail crew traveling northbound toward Hyacinth ST NE. Despite sounding the horn repeatedly and using emergency measures, the train crew could not avoid the collision.

After investigations, the train was released and continued its route by around 5 p.m.
