Oregon Man Sentenced to 27 Years for Killing Promising Rapper He Believed Slept With Girlfriend
Twenty-seven-year-old Cody Denewith faces more than 27 years in prison for killing a man who he mistakenly believed had slept with his girlfriend in Orange City, Clackamas County, last year.
Denewith was sentenced in the Clackamas County Circuit Court on Monday after pleading guilty to first-degree manslaughter and assault after fatally shooting a promising rap artist, Nathan D. Anderson (25), in an alley on 29 April 2024.
Girlfriend was Sentenced To More Than 13 Years in Prison
His girlfriend, Dominique Britt, the mother of his two-year-old daughter, was sentenced to 13 years and six months in prison at a hearing last December.
According to prosecutors, the court heard how Denewith and Dominique Britt conspired to kill Anderson because of an incident six days before the shooting.
On 23 April 2024, while Denewith was in custody on suspicion of domestic violence, Anderson visited Britt at her home at Forest Ridge Apartments in S.E. River Road together with a few other friends she had invited to commiserate over her boyfriend’s arrest.
On his release due to insufficient evidence, Denewith became obsessed with the belief that Anderson had slept with his girlfriend and that she had been assaulted by him.
Prosecutors told the court that Britt helped Denewith by organizing to have a gun delivered to him. Anderson was lured to an industrial area on Southeast 90th Avenue, where he was shot multiple times, dying en route to the hospital.
Investigators obtained surveillance footage showing the shooting and cellphone data that tracked Denewith traveling to and from the crime scene.
Last December, Britt (27) pleaded guilty to first-degree manslaughter and was sentenced to 13 years and six months in prison.
Denewith was sentenced to 27 years and six months in prison with the possibility of time off after the first 10 years.
