Oregon Music Hall Of Fame Honors Laura Veirs

On Saturday, at the 17th annual Oregon Music Hall of Fame ceremony at the Aladdin Theatre in Portland, local musician Laura Veirs was recognized for her legacy and the contributions she makes to the industry.

At the Hall of Fame ceremony on Saturday, Laura Veirs was inducted alongside fellow musicians including Blitzen Trapper, Bob Dietsche, Gary Fountaine,  Jenny Conlee, John Nilsen, Robbie Laws,  Steve Reischman, Tony Lash,  and The Obituaries.

Artist of the Year award went to The Man and Colossal Waste of Light won album of the year for the band Eyelids. Special honors went to The Exploding Hearts and Darcelle XV and The Exploding Hearts.

The event also included a live auction with Peter Frampton, Everclear, and Paul Stanley of KISS fame autographed guitars as well as Nirvana’s Krist Novoselic’s bass.

 

Laura Veirs Inducted Into Oregon Music Hall Of Fame

Laura Veirs said she felt embraced in her hometown after writing songs for 30 years. Born and raised in Colorado, it was after she moved to Portland decades ago that she continued blending her distinctive voice with a unique mix of introspective lyrics in folk, country, and pop songwriting that produce ethereal folk melodies,

A prominent figure in the indie folk scene. Veirs’ poetic lyrics have spanned thirteen albums. About the award, Veirs said, “Feels wonderful.”

Veir’s parents came from San Juan Island to attend the ceremony with Veirs’s children, her fiance, and his kids giving the event a real community feeling.

She gave advice to others in the industry to show up at random gigs where you are invited- you never know who or what opportunities will be there. She said “Say yes.”
