Oregon One of 18 States Where Deadly E. Coli Outbreak Traced To Organic Carrots
Thirty-nine people have been infected with E.Coli across 18 states, including Oregon, and one person has died following an outbreak linked to organic carrots.
Bagged Organic Carrots Recalled In Oregon Due To E.Coli Outbreak
A food safety alert has been issued by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) advising people to avoid recalled bagged organic carrots.
The organic whole and baby carrots produced by Grimmway Farms, sold under several brand names, have been linked to the outbreak following interviews with those who fell ill. The carrots have now been recalled and pulled from store shelves.
Authorities said that any of these carrots still in people’s homes should be thrown away.
The CDC confirmed that the brands affected are Grimmway Farms as well as Bunny Luv, Cal-Organic, Compliments, Full Circle, Good & Gather, GreenWise, Marketside, Nature’s Promise, O-Organic, President’s Choice, Raley’s, Simple Truth, Sprouts, 365, Trader Joe’s, Wegmans, Wholesome Pantry.
Of the 39 people infected, 15 were hospitalized and one died. Three of these people were in Oregon, another three in California, and eight in Washington.
In this strain of E.Coli, the infection led to severe stomach cramps, vomiting, and diarrhea, while some could develop serious kidney problems. Affter the bacteria is ingested, symptoms typically start three to four days later.
