Oregon Pacific Power Customers Must be Alert to Scammers
Pacific Power warns Oregon consumers to remain alert to scammers this holiday season.
How to Identify a Scam Caller
The power utility says customers who receive a phone call from someone posing as a Pacific Power representative can identify bogus calls if the caller:
- Threatens to cut service if payment is not made immediately
- Requests that you purchase a prepaid card and then relay its information
- Demands immediate payment for broken or damaged electrical equipment or other services
- Sends a text message demanding payment
Customers should regard with suspicion any payment demands made via a phone call, text message, email, or in-person approach.
Pacific Power suggests that customers ask suspicious callers to provide the utility account number and check that it coincides with the number reflected on their utility bills.
Pacific Power only requests customers to pay their accounts via their website app – Pay My Bill – and through no other method.
Contact Customer Service Department
The utility service appeals to customers to contact their customer service department at 1-888-221-7070 if in doubt about a caller and to provide as much information as possible – the caller’s phone number or any other information that could help nab the scammers.
